Closing time

First up Esther's mug. She has a bit more painting to go before it's glazed and fired. She kept asking everyone what colors to use where and relied a bit too much on the man who didn't care about colour variation for support.

Next up the logo that I now recognize! If I was on jeopardy I would have past the time limit and lost a bundle though.

The finished flaming basketball and a flash of some gleaming and perfectly perfect teeth.


The inside of the basketball mug that he was going to leave white, but his girlfriend teasingly objected. When I agreed with her and encouraged the table to stage a pottery painting intervention he came up with the very cool idea of a basketball net.

My almost finished work of art. I know you're practically green with envy so I'll agree to share, but I get to use it first!

The Art in Progress

This baby sister was the reason we were stretching our creative talent tonight. She started that mug in August or September of last year and need to finish it post haste.

In her defense it takes patience to slowly paint her design without going over the edges. She drew an animal print freehand with some lettering that read, "Sarah's Mug".

It was this middle child's first excursion to Brushfire and her painting skills were definitely out of use, but she jumped right into the thick of things with some stencils and got to work. She chose a turtle, a butterfly, a heart, a fish and some lettering that reads, "Esther's Mug".

It was also this young man's first time at Brushfire. He did well - he knew exactly what design and what colours he wanted to choose. He wasn't picky about the variations of colours though, men don't care about these things he assured me. Orange is orange. He asked for orange and that's what he got. He chose a flaming basketball on one side and a sport logo of some kind on the other. (forgive me TWN for not recognizing it!)

This is my piece. I strayed from my spectular tributes to the seasons on mugs to bring you... a cereal bowl with stars! um you're jealous I know, but someday if you work hard you can have a cereal bowl with stars too.

Brushfire

Tonight we went to Brushfire, a ceramic painting studio and exercised our artistic "skills".

There was a wide variety of pottery pieces to choose from.

A great looking bowl with a built in rest for chopsticks.

I thought these egg shaped salt and pepper shakers were so cute! I didn't choose them though because I would like to leave them white and that wouldn't be much painting. I could have painted on some cracks, some eyes or gone for an easter egg theme, but I think they look best left white.

I've been going for mugs lately. I thought TWN would appreciate these beer jugs... do you think they're suitable for cask ale?

Here are some valentine cards that I thought were nice, the saying in the top right corner is a bit coarse but cool! The little ones smootching in the bottom left corner were very cute too but there wasn't anything printed on it.

Valentine cookie inspiration! These looked so good. My picture doesn't do the pink icing any justice at all. I have to remember to adjust the white balance.

I was trying to take a picture of the quotations on the wall and this woman kept getting in my way! She likes to be in front of the camera, but that's okay I like her anyway.

I had heard about a photographer who takes pictures of people's plates after they were finished eating. This lady sitting across from me was kind enough to tilt hers up so I could get a better view. She had eaten a chocolate chip cookie and vanilla gelati. The brown spiky thing in her cup is a tea blossom. It bloomed while it was steeping in the hot water. It is a white tea called Dragon Lily.

McNally Robinson

We went for a light lunch to the Prairie Ink Cafe in McNally Robinson.

It was quite a day, we had just missed the lunch rush.

There was a wide variety of dishes and we couldn't quite decide which ones to choose.


When they arrived everyone's dishes looked very tasty.

I ate too much and couldn't finish.

Playing with Picasa

I was exploring the photo editing options on picasa and came up with this! I tried to get rid of the dark circles under my eyes and then gave the whole picture a "glow". The other side I just tinted red. I think I look a bit like a muppet (from the muppet show!) in the red picture, anyway this combination makes me laugh!

Crooked Glasses

These are some pictures I was took earlier this month when I straightened my hair. I dyed it a bit darker and it seems to me that it came out with a reddish tinge. My hairstylist told me that it's more healthy for hair to be dyed darker rather than lighter in the dry winter months, so I went darker. As it gets warmer I intend on putting more and more lighter pieces in. My glasses were bent in two places, but at least this pair could be bent back enough to be of some use. My other pair made out of plastic isn't repairable, so the hunt for new frames is on!
